Congratulations are extended to George Cartwright, Cornafean who launched his latest book on Friday night last entitled Breifne Abú. It is a comprehensive record of teams who played in finals from Minor up since the foundation of the GAA. From Railway Cup teams with Cavan players through Cavan teams and club teams, schools and colleges, Hurling to County Board officials and finishing with a selection of songs and recitations about Cavan teams and players. It was painstaking work and great credit is due to George for getting through it in a relatively short time. It will settle many an argument in pubs and is a must for any GAA enthusiast. There was a great turnout on Friday night for the launch with most clubs in the county represented. Copies of the book are on sale in Lynch’s Newsagents, Arva and with a limited number printed early purchase is advisable.

Shop Local: With the countdown on for Christmas we appeal to everyone in the area to try and shop locally where they will get all their needs at prices as good as in the big towns. These local shops provide sponsorship towards local voluntary organisations on an ongoing basis and also give employment so we should support them at all times. Also when sending Christmas cards try to send Irish made cards.

Sympathy: The area was saddened with the news of the death of Mrs Bridget Duignan, Drumcarey, Corlismore which occurred on Monday 28th November in Cavan General Hospital. Formerly Bridget Masterson from Enaughan she moved to Drumcarey in the late 1930’s where she met and in 1943 married John Duignan. She was dealt a cruel blow when John died just 21 years later and their children still teenagers. Her deep faith brought her through this tough time and was important all through her life. In later years she looked forward to making a visit to Knock Shrine at least once a year and it was so appropriate that the hymn “Our Lady of Knock” was sung at her funeral. Bridget was known as a very hard working, generous and hospitable lady and anyone who ever worked for her was always well looked after. Her remains were removed from her residence to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea and following Requiem Mass burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Rev Eamonn Bredin C.C. Arva officiated. She is survived by her son Michael in Drumcarey, daughters Anna Guckian, Fenagh, Co Leitrim, Kathleen Denning, Drumcarey, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends to whom we extend sincere sympathy.
