On Sunday 5th February a near disaster was averted by the quick thinking of Eamonn Gray when a serious fire broke out at the rear of his premises The Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Main Street, Arva. As a former member of Arva fire Brigade he took necessary steps to prevent the firs spreading and the Killeshandra Fire Brigade were on the scene in a short time. The Cavan Brigade were also on the scene but were not needed. Local Garda Sergeant Willie Ward evacuated a number of neighbouring houses as the fire raged and there was the danger of it spreading. However it was not as bad as at first feared and thankfully the Hotel was able to continue working without too much inconvenience. Eamonn and Philomena have been generous and accommodating to many local organisations and there was general relief that the damage was contained. Long may they continue in business in the Hotel.
