St Patrick’s Arva Football Club: Annual General Meeting will take place on this Saturday evening 21st January at 8.00 pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex. All members are requested to attend and new members are always welcome
: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday night last where there here was no Jackpot winner - numbers drawn were 1 - 4 – 9 – 20 and the following received a €50 consolation prize – Conal Conneely, Arva. Orla Ward, Arva. Sean Doris, Redhills. The Jackpot on Monday last 16th January was €2,650. Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. Thanks to everyone for supporting the G.A.A. Lotto.
Gear: There is a limited amount of GAA Club Gear for sale in Arva Post Office – call in and check it out.
The Annual General Meeting of St Patrick’s Arva G.F.C. will be held on this Saturday evening 21st January at 8.00 pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex. Arva Ladies G.F.C. held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday last in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex with a good attendance. The following officers were elected for the coming year – Chairman John Sheridan, Vice Chair Geraldine Kiernan, Secretary Adel Magarahan, Assistant Secretary Vanessa Ellis, Treasurer Caroline Pratt, Assistant Treasurer Kathleen Ellis, Children’s Officer Lionel Mullally. The Juvenile Teams will continue to be managed by Wolfgang Welch. New members are always welcome in the Arva Ladies Football Club.
Church of Ireland Services for the Arva Group of Parishes: Sunday 22nd January – Morning Prayer @ 10.00 am in Carrigallen and Columbkille and @ 11.30 am in Arva and Gowna.
Visitation’s: Parishioners are asked to note that if anyone has a family member in Hospital who would like a Pastoral visit from their local clergy please contact them with Ward details etc. Due to data protection legislation hospitals are not now allowed to give Patient lists to Priests – so they have no way of knowing if a Parishioner is in hospital.
Line Dancing continues on Thursday nights in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex with Classes for Beginners at 8.30 pm and for the more advanced at 9.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend so come along and enjoy the fun.
Arva Agricultural Show Society are holding a Table Quiz in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva on Friday of next week 27th January starting at 8.30 pm. a table of 4 cost’s €40 and everyone is welcome to attend. Please support our local Show. There will be a meeting of the Show committee on this Thursday night 19th January in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva at 9.30 pm. all members please attend.

`The Pitch’ This iconic Gaelic football themed stage play launched a couple of months ago in Croke Park and is currently touring around the GAA strongholds of Ireland will be staged in Ballinagh Hall on this Wednesday night - January 18th - doors open @ 8.00 pm. Starring the brilliant Seamus O’Rourke former Leitrim footballer & Cornmill Theatre actor. “THE PITCH” has really captivated audiences & had them reeling in their seats up and down the country. Bingo: The weekly Sunday night Bingo in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva will return in two weeks – Sunday 5th February – following a successful 6 months in Carrigallen. The committee are looking forward to greeting all their supporters back to Arva.
Meditation: The next course in Meditation begins again in Arva Holistic Centre on Tuesday 17th January running for 8 weeks. Also starting on a Thursday night guided Meditation for anyone with a little experience in the practice of Meditation – it begins on Thursday 19th January. Arvagh Comhaltas kicked off the New Year with the first session of 2012 in Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva on Friday night last 13th January. There has been increased interest over the past year with many new musicians and singers joining in on the second Friday of each month and if last Friday is anything to go by 2012 will be a very successful year. There is a growing interest among the younger generation for our traditional music and the session on Friday night was top class. Sessions start for Junior musicians at 8.30pm followed by Seniors at 9.30 pm
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Madge Bouchier, Drumalt, Arva and Mr Christy Morris, Drumcarey, Ballinagh on the death of their sister Mrs Eileen Donohoe, Graddum, Crosserlough which occurred on Thursday 29th December. Following Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church, Crosserlough burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Chris Brady, Cortober, Arva on the death of her brother Mr Brendan Brady, Springtown, Granard which occurred on 31st December. Following Requiem Mass in St Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara burial took place in Carragh Cemetery.
Arva Active Age will hold their monthly Coffee Morning in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex on Friday 3rd February following the 10 o’clock Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva. All members past ans present plus new members will be made more than welcome.
The Annual Sale of Work will take place in St patrick’s Hall, Arva during the month of April (date to be confirmed). The Annual Social Night will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva on Wednesday 29th February at 7.30 pm. Members of the surrounding club’s will be invited to attend and full details will be published later.
The recent Book Stall which was run by the Senior Citizens Committee at the winter fare in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva last December was a resounding success. The committee would like to thank all people who donated items to the sale and those who came to support on the day. The committee would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy, Holy and Prosperous New Year.
