St Patrick’s Arva Football Club: Parents are reminded that U-10 coaching continues each Saturday morning in the football field for children aged between 6 years and 10 years.

The Division 3 side had 2 challenge games last week against Aughavas on Tuesday night and against Drumalee on Friday night. They were defeated in both games and it showed that they still have a way to go before they can compete at a higher level. Hopefully they will show better form on this Saturday night when they meet Shannon Gaels at the Belturbet venue in the second round of the Hotel Kilmore Junior Football Championship. The game is timed for 7.00 p.m. and it will take a huge effort on behalf of the Arva players to get a win. Over the past few years Shannon Gaels have held the Indian Sign over Arva so the game on Saturday will show how much they have improved. The club will be hoping for a good turn out of supporters to cheer on the team.

The small band of faithful Cavan supporters who travelled to Aughrim on Saturday evening last to support their team against Wicklow in the 2nd round of the Qualifiers returned home very disappointed once again. While the weather was not suitable for good football it was the same for both teams and Cavan never looked like winning. The final score was 1-12 to 0-8 but the home side would not have been flattered to win by a bigger margin.
Website: St Patrick’s Arva Football Club’s new Website – www.arvagfc.com – is getting many hits over the weeks and receiving great praise from those who have viewed it. The website is the work of Club Secretary Danny Mc Entee and there is up to date information on all aspects of the life of the club – fixtures, results, Match reports, League tables and there are several hundred photographs to view. Some are old photo’s but many are top class action shots from this years games from Junior Championship down to Under 12 games. The club would request anyone with old photo’s to get in touch with any officer and they can be scanned and returned immediately. The club have got requests for old photos and would like to get as many as possible. Does anyone have the photo of the 1969 St Joseph’s team that played Crosserlough in the championship final as there has been a special request for it.

Cavan supporters will have to travel to Aughrim on Saturday evening next to support their team against Wicklow in the 2nd round of the Qualifiers. The draw was made on Sunday evening last and Cavan was the last of 16 teams to be pulled from the bowl. Wicklow defeated Fermanagh on Saturday last so Cavan will be up against it on this occasion and will have to improve dramatically from the Antrim game if they hope to advance.

GAA: Cavan supporters were very disappointed with the performance of the Cavan Senior Football team in Clones on Saturday evening last where they were defeated by Antrim in the Ulster Semi-Final. It wasn’t the fact that Antrim beat them but the fact that they played so badly. There is no disgrace in loosing a good game but this was a new low for Cavan. Supporters leaving the venue were visibly annoyed with the performance and will be looking for something a lot better in the Qualifiers.

St Patrick’s Arva Football Club: The Arva victory in the Hotel Kilmore Junior Football Championship on Friday week last came with a heavy cost. Two Arva players suffered serious injuries during the game and both are out of action for some time. Sean Mc Manus suffered a broken Collar Bone while Stephen Ellis broke a bone in his hand and both had to go to Drogheda Hospital on Monday of last week. We wish both players a speedy recovery and hope to see them back in action as soon as possible.
Arva played a postponed game in the Division 6 League against Mountnugent on Sunday last but were well beaten on this occasion with the home side ahead by 2 goals at the final whistle 3-12 to 1-12. Arva were in control for long periods in the first half but squandered at least a goal and 6 points which would have made the difference at the finish. The home side were physically stronger and as the second half wore on they gradually took control. Lapses in concentration cost Arva dearly and were the cause of 2 goals so this is something they will have to concentrate on in future. Sean Donnelly pointed for Arva in the 2nd & 3rd minutes while Alan Barry added another in the 9th minute. Brian Ellis & Raymond Daly scored 2 points in 14th & 15th minutes and Ellis was again on target from a free in the 22nd minute. David Rudden closed the scoring with points in the 25th & 29th minutes and the half time score rad Arva 0-8 Mountnugent 1-4. Donnelly was again on target in the opening minutes of the second half with points in the 1st & 2nd minute but over the next 10 minutes the home side scored 2 – 4 to put them 3 goals clear. David Rudden got on the end of a good move to claim a goal for Arva but all they could add was 2 further point from Brian Ellis and an Alan Barry free to leave the full time score Mountnugent 3-12 Arva 1-12. Arva team - Darragh Fox, Patrick Mulligan, Patrick Murtagh, Raymond Brady, Barry Mc Hugh, Brian Fitzpatrick, Paul Brady, Dessie Dobson, Fergal Mc Glade, David Rudden, Alan Barry, Danny Mc Entee, Raymond Daly, Sean Donnelly, Brian Ellis. Sub’s: Dean Harrington, Shane Finnegan, Cian Sheridan, Conor Mc Entee, Brian Mc Entee.

St Patrick’s Arva Football Club: Arva had their first game in this years Hotel Kilmore Junior Football Championship when they took on Maghera in St Matthews Park, Crosskeys on Friday evening last which Arva won by 5 points – Arva 0-11 Maghera 0-6. It started out as a lovely summer evening with the sun shining but with 10 minutes left to play the rain started falling heavily leaving the pitch greasy for the last minutes. Maghera might be operating out of Division 4 but they gave Arva plenty to think about over the hour and when the final whistle sounded the winners were relieved. Peter Morris opened the scoring for Arva with a point in the second minute and Thomas Brady added another in the 8th minute. Maghera replied with 2 points in the 9th & 10th minutes to level the scores but that was as good as it got for them. Arva added 5 points without reply from Gavin Doyle (17th & 27th minutes), Dermot Mc Glade ( 18 minutes), Peter Morris (20 minutes), and Thomas Brady ( 31st minute) to leave them 5 points clear at the interval. Arva were awarded a Penalty in 24th minute when Peter Morris was fouled in the square but Shane Bouchier’s attempted conversion went wide. The scores were evenly matched in the second half with both sides scoring 4 points – Gavin Doyle hitting 3 for Arva with David Bouchier getting the other from a free. Maghera had a player sent off for 2 Yellow Card offences but it was late in the game and had little relevance. Arva team & Scorers – Darragh Fox, Philip Galligan, Sean Mc Manus, Shane Bouchier, Stephen Ellis, Dermot Mc Glade (0-1), Conor Mc Entee, Brian Fitzpatrick, James Morris, Alan Barry, Sean Donnelly, David Bouchier (0-1), Thomas Brady (0-2), Peter Morris (0-2), Gavin Doyle ( 0-5). Sub’s Brian Ellis, Dessie Dobson, Danny Mc Entee.
The Arva U-14 team had a good win over Munterconnacht in the Shield Final which was played in Michael Cully Park, Arva on Wednesday evening last on a score line Arva 6-9 Munterconnacht 3-5. The home side had only one player aged 14 with most of the team U-12 so it was a great win for that reason alone. Arva team - Oisín Sheridan, Enda Gormley, Cormac Mc Cabe, Tristan Noack, Rory Mulligan, Paul Bouchier (1-1), Ryan Magarahan (1-0), Bernard Brady, Danny Conneely (1-2), Shane Hamilton (0-1), Danny Ellis (1-4). The Arva U-12 team - which included most of the team that played the U-14 Shield Final the previous evening – had a good win over Redhills in a League game in Michael Cully Park on Thursday evening last. They are due to play Kill in the Semi-Final this evening (Tuesday) in Rathluden Park. Once again we congratulate the members of the football club who give so freely of their time coaching these young players each week.
