Div 3 Arva 1-11 Maghera 1-8
On Sunday afternoon it was off to Maghera to play the home side in Division 3 and following a titanic struggle Arva just got over the line and took the points. The home side were “up” for this game and hit the ground running and were rewarded with a penalty in the 3rd minute which they duly scored. From there to half time they added 5 points while Arva could just manage 4 points – 3 frees from Peter Morris and a point from play from Gavin Doyle.

Arva improved after half time and had 3 points from Morris (free), Thomas Brady and gavin Doyle to leave a point between the sides. Maghera were not giving up and responded with 2 points while Morris was again on target with 2 pointed frees. Maghera’s last point came in the 29th minute when they seemed on course for victory but in a fantastic closing minutes Arva scored 1-2 to win by 3 points. Thomas Brady was on the end of a great up-field move and from 20 yards blasted to the roof of the net to put the visitors ahead by a point and Morris added on 2 points to seal victory. The final score was Arva 1-11 Maghera 1-8. The game was played on a very greasy surface which was caused by a cloudburst while there was also thunder and lightning. This caused many players to slip and a number of accidental collisions also occurred.

Both teams are in action again this weekend with the Division 3 game in Michael Cully Park at 7.30 pm on Friday evening and the Reserve game on Sunday.
