The Junior game was played first and the visiting side took the points on a score line Laragh Utd 2-10 Arva 0-9. Arva opened the scoring through Dessie Dobson in the first minute but through bad shooting and wrong options they didn’t score again until the 29th minute with a Dean Harrington point. In the meantime Laragh had scored 2-6 which left them ahead by 10 points at the interval. Arva won the second half by 8 points to 4 points which left the final score Laragh Utd 2-10 Arva 0-9. The Senior game followed and the play was intense all through with the home side prevailing by 2 points on a score line Arva 2-10 Laragh Utd 1-11. Arva played with great heart all through and had points from Peter Morris 0-4, Alan Barry and Richard Keith while Raymond Daly hit the net to leave them in front by 1-6 to 0-6 at the break. Laragh started the second half in determined fashion and scored 1-2 in the first 6 minutes to put them in the driving seat. Peter Morris responded for the home side in the 7th minute but the visitors replied in like fashion 4 minutes later. In a rousing last quarter Arva outscored the opposition by 1-3 to 2 points to gain a hard earned victory. Morris was in great form and scored 2 of these points while Gavin Doyle’s score was top class. Raymond Daly also put in a great performance with the goal to add to the one he scored in the first half.
This was a great game for both sides as little separated them all through but in the end the home side deserved their victory. When Laragh got on top at the start of the second half things didn’t look good for the home side but they refused to give in fought to the finish. Gavin Doyle’s point which was scored in the 32nd minute of the second half said a lot about the calibre of this player. He got possession deep in his own half and soloed the length of the field before shooting over the bar.
